All of the Tinsley-Bible employees wear the U of Tennessee orange and white not because of their proximity to Knoxville but to honor their co-founder Lloyd "Doc" Bible who graduated from the U of Tennessee School of Pharmacy in Memphis. Founded in 1911, The Tinsley-Bible Drug Co. remains a working pharmacy and full soda fountain. The soda fountain was added in 1942 when the store expanded. As I found out the first time I visited (on a Saturday) the soda fountain is only open Monday-Friday and since lunch is the last meal served, the place is usually packed till 2:00pm. Breakfast is served from 7:00am to 10:30am and ice cream from 10:30am to 6:00pm. Friday is burger day which means you can get their signature Bible Burger with cheese, chips and a drink for $5.00 bucks. I had an excellent vanilla shake and a Bible Burger with everything which includes; lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, mustard, cheese and pickles on the side. My wide and messy Bible burger was 6 napkins superb and well worth the detour to Dandridge. Their non-ice cream desserts are prepared daily from the local kitchens of the Shepherd's Inn, the drinks are self-serve and they really appreciate it if you bus your own table. Enjoy!
