Of NASCAR's many shrines to the sport only one of them will be 100 years old in 2010. Pulliam's excellent old fashioned toasted hotdogs have been a favorite treat for many Winston-Salem residents since 1910. Pulliam's has amassed a large and loyal following for it's hotdogs over the years including past and present regulars like; Bill France, Sr. (NASCAR's founder and builder of both the Daytona International Speedway & the Talladega Super-Speedway), Bill France, Jr. (Put NASCAR into the national spotlight by signing the sports first major television deals with CBS Sports, ESPN, TNN and TBS, thus making NASCAR what it is today), Mike Helton (current NASCAR President), Richard Childress (Richard Childress Racing), Glenn Wood (Wood Brothers Racing), Fran Tarkenton (NFL quarterback for the Vikings), in addition to scores of drivers like; Pee Wee Jones, Harry Leake, Carl Burris, E. J. Brewer, Perk Brown, Toots Jenkins, Bob Welborne, Mike Buddy, Ricky Smith, Mark Martin, Ricky Rudd, Jimmie Spencer, Tony Stewart, Terry Labonte, Richard Petty and Kyle Petty. Throw into the mix President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Sarah Palin had a Pulliam's hotdog when she visited the track in Martinsville and Bill Goldberg had a Pulliam dog @ the track in Charlotte. My excellent Pulliam dog was all the way with mustard, onions, chili and sweet slaw. An Original John Pulliam dog comes only with slaw. The nuclear red Jesse Jones brand hotdogs are, along with the buns, buttered and toasted on the grill. Add a cold glass bottle Coke, Cheerwine, Nehi or RC to wash down your dog. Or just have an RC and a Moon-Pie. They also sell B & G handmade pies. The current Pulliam building is circa 1938. Inside you won't find any seats it's just stand and counter eating. Pulliam's is open Tuesday thru Saturday from 10:00am - 5:30pm. Enjoy!
