While there may be other locations around the Shenandoah Valley, the first Kline's Dairy Bar opened in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1943. Ice cream? I think their ice cream is much closer to frozen custard, and that's a good thing! The difference between the two is that frozen custard contains egg yolks and this gives the frozen custard a smoother, creamier texture compared to ice cream. Also, no air is whipped into the process of making frozen custard. This is thanks to their vintage 1940's era Electro-Freeze machine. What all of this means is that frozen custard has a smoother, softer, richer, creamier and fresher taste to it that you won't find in ice cream. Although it looks like soft-serve ice cream, it's really not. it's way better! My cupped vanilla (frozen custard) was great!
