With farmers' fields now back to their familiar green, seasonal places are now starting to open. One of Pennsylvania's best, Crabb's Tropical Treat in Hanover, opens the 2nd weekend in March and closes the last weekend in September. Founded in 1953, Crabb's Tropical Treat Drive-In is the real thing, complete with Tele tray push button light-up menus @ each slot, window trays and carhops providing curb-side service. I had a vanilla shake, two dogs and my first ever birch beer. The dogs are split grilled with steamed buns. My excellent dogs were topped with mustard, onions and a beef barbecue sauce. My birch beer was great and my vanilla shake, made with ice cream from a local dairy, was wicked good. And try the fried chicken, it's superb! Enjoy. Note: The UTZ potato chip factory and store is also in Hanover.
