Producing premium ice cream requires superior milk and it's the Jersey cow whose cream rises to the top. Jersey cows produce the richest milk containing the highest % of protein and butterfat, and Chaney's has a whole grass-fed herd of them. Chaney's Dairy sits on a 54 acre farm so their cows have plenty of room to roam and because this is a family farm, the cows are not pushed for production. Chaney's cows have longer lives, about 10 to 12 years vs. 8 years for a milk only production cow. All of the milk used in their ice cream comes from the farm and it's home-made on-site. I tried two scoop of cinnamon and two scoops of lemon and they were both excellent! Chaney's uses local strawberries, peaches and Kentucky pecans in their ice creams. They are also the only Kentucky Proud ice cream store in the state. Their number one sellers are Butter-pecan and chocolate/vanilla and they also produce special ice creams for local universities, the Corvette Museum and Mammoth Cave. In the summer-time they offer ice cream and a kids' movie. They only show kids movies, the free movies are projected onto their barn with cars parked in their field. What could be more American than that Enjoy!
