Winnipeg, Manitoba has long bitterly cold winters and short warm summers, and one of the best ways to enjoy those warm summers in the Peg is to cool off at the Bridge Drive-In. The BDI, as the locals know it, is a favorite Winnipeg landmark known for its ice cream treats like the "Goog" special, which is a blueberry ice cream shake topped with banana chunk, hot fudge, more ice cream, peanuts, whipped cream and topped with a cherry. Then there is the peaches and cream concocted of soft vanilla ice cream, peaches and strawberries, all topped with whipped cream a superb monster of a dessert. The Cantaberry, is a half a cantaloupe, scooped out and filled with ice cream. These are just a few of their unusual treats. They also have eleven flavors of soft serve ice cream, splits, sundaes and shakes. My smooth and creamy vanilla shake traveler was excellent. The drive-in overlooks the Red River at a point where a pedestrian bridge crosses the river hence the name Bridge Drive-In. The drive-in is open seasonally, and takes only cash. Enjoy their amazing treats! Note: Even though Winnipeg is one of the world's coldest cities during the winter, the city is also the Slurpee capitol of the world. Winnipeggers consume more than 400,000 Slurpees per month.
