Charlotte's landmark family-owned BBQ-King (Since 1959) is still a curb-service drive-in complete with speaker box menus. The BBQ King uses Smithfield pork shoulders that are smoked/cooked in-house with hickory. My minced Q sandwich topped with slaw and a side of bbq'ed baked beans were both very good. Their home-made Q sauce is a vinegar, tomato and spice based one. Everything @ the King is home-made and they go through 2,000 lbs. of onions, 400-500 lbs. of trout/perch, 2,000 burgers and 1,200 hotdogs a week, so they are more than just a barbeque place. Their most popular/best-selling items are; their old-fashioned stove-top brewed sweet iced tea (very good), Sundrop with cherry syrup and a cherry (superb), home-made onion rings (excellent), BBQ'ed fried chicken (juicy joy), Po boys (I'll try them next time) and the trout sandwich (I'll try it next time too). They are open Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00am-10:00pm and they are closed on Sunday & Monday. Enjoy! Thanks Gus and David!
