One of the best stops on the Virginia Barbeque Trail is Allman’s BBQ in Fredericks-burg. Allman’s has been in this location since 1954. The vintage brick and cinderblock building is tiny with only a few tables and seven original swivel stools lined up at a counter inside. The place can get packed quickly especially around lunchtime. I had a sliced Q sandwich topped with slaw, sweet tea and some baked beans on the side. The pork was originally Pit-Cooked. Now they use electric cookers. Allman’s only cooks pork shoulders from The Virginia Smithfield Farms. My sliced Q sandwich topped with their slaw and sweet sauce was excellent! (The Q sandwich does not come with sauce already on it). The coleslaw was outstanding, consisting of long and stringy cabbage that was bathed in a sweet and creamy Mayo-based sauce. The sweet tea and the baked beans were both very good. Allman’s superbly sweet Q sauce is vinegar based with some added spices. Allman’s is located near the Mary Washington University Campus. Let Allman's quell your Q cravings.
