The Dairy Center has been in Mt. Airy since 1954. I wasn’t looking for it exactly I just stumbled across it. What caught my eye, were the two great neon signs. This place was just what I normally look for, A very small stand out of the mainstream. It looked like it was about 50 years old. It had old neon. And it wasn’t a chain store. Usually, a place that has been around for a while has great food, otherwise it never would have made it. It also must have a great owner to preserve the nostalgia of the place, and to keep it from being bulldozed. It does have great food. I had two slawdogs with chili, onions, mustard, and nuclear red hotdogs. The dogs were excellent. And, since it was a Dairy Center, I had to try the milkshake. It was very good! The Dairy Center is a real hidden treasure.
