Until my road trip through the Mississippi Gulf Coast, my doughnut knowledge was limited to Dunkin Donuts & Krispy Kreme. I was first made aware of Shipley’s Do-Nuts in Hattiesburg. Shipley’s offers 63 varieties: lemon filled, plain, plain glazed, cake, apple filled, chocolate glazed, cream filled, chocolate cake, apple fritters, Devil’s food and a cherry filled one, just to name a few. The plain glazed is their best seller. I selected a cherry filled, lemon filled, chocolate glazed, and a plain glazed do-nut. Ice-cold bottles of Dairy Fresh Brand milk are perfect with your Do-Nut. All of my do-nuts were excellent! The plain glazed, however, was outstanding! It was incredibly light and fluffy and had an amazingly sweet taste. This is a family owned business and everything here is made fresh daily. The Shipley Do-Nut regional chain originated in Houston, Texas in 1936. Shipley’s has 86 stores covering the Houston area. They also have locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and, of course, Texas. And they will soon open in New Mexico. They take VISA! Happy Eating
