Behind the Char-Grill’s huge front window you can see flames rising high off the grill. That burger on the grill, will soon be fire branded a Char-Burger. Your stomach starts to protest over its emptiness and moans accordingly. So, you reach for a numbered order slip, tear one off, and start to survey your choices. Remember that number, they will call it out later. Now that you have penciled in your wishes, you put that slip in the slot and watch it slide down its stainless steel ramp to the awaiting cook. The cook glances at you with a favorable nod. Now you wait. You are awakened suddenly by a voice revealing a number. Could this be my number perhaps? Will I finally be able to taste the Char-Goodness of my cheeseburger? Ah, No, I must suffer a bit longer. Finally my number is called and my wish has been granted. I received a cheeseburger and a vanilla milkshake. My burger was topped with mustard, ketchup and onions. The cheeseburgers are not giants, but they are the perfect size for a snack or if you are eating on the go. My cheeseburger was excellent, It was hot and juicy and right off the grill. My vanilla milkshake was also very good. The Char-Grill has been in Raleigh since 1959. The Char-Grill is very close to N.C. State and is on Hillsborough St., just down from the State Capitol.
